Humulene – Providing Aromas of Earth, Wood and Spice

On this page, you will find a list of cannabis strains that contain humulene. Humulene is a terpene commonly found in hops and it gives beers their taste and aroma of earth, wood and spice. As such, humulene-dominant cannabis strains are often said to share these same characteristics. In fact, the terpene takes its name from Humulus Lupulus, also known as the hops plant.

However, humulene has also been used for hundreds of years in Eastern medicinal practices. Modern research has found it to be an effective anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and appetite suppressant. It is quite a common terpene in cannabis and it seems to be present in higher levels in caryophyllene-dominant cannabis strains.

Humulene is found in many therapeutic essential oils, such as Balsam Fir Oil, which is believed to have an active role in fighting tumours thanks to its ability to produce Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). It also has a role to play in pharmacokinetics, the study of how the body absorbs, distributes, metabolises and excretes drugs, as it has shown the potential to be rapidly distributed throughout the body. As such, many believe that cannabis strains containing humulene may also offer a number of medically beneficial properties.
